ZFS (zettabyte file system)

By far the most awesome thing to happen to the file system in years:

Encrypt

If you need to have a file encrypted while at rest, Solaris 10 has a built in solution. You will need to store the "key" file in a safe place and it can have anything in it.

# Create the key file.
vi /tmp/key

# Encrypt the file.
cat /tmp/file | encrypt -a arcfour -k /tmp/key > /tmp/file2

# Decrypt the file.
decrypt -a arcfour -k /tmp/key /tmp/file2

Zones

Zones are the poor mans Domain solution. It is both HW independent and free. Therefore, it wise to know how to set them up and admin them.

LDOM Setup and Creation

We have a 2x T2000 cluster of LDOMs setup in our environment. We set them up so that the EMC San disks are shared equally between the two servers. This allows us to fail the Logical Domains (LDOMs) between the two servers. I have been asked to publish the basic steps needed to setup an LDOM environment.

Solaris 10 Multipathing

I work in a shop that has no Veritas Products at all. However, they do have Solaris 10 on almost all of there servers. Since VXdmp was always on servers that I supported at other companies, I needed to go digging into Solaris 10 to get what I needed. Below is what worked for me setting up a StorageTek 2510 to a set of T2000's.
